Three 10x ARR AI Recruiting Startups, Three Different Futures
AI recruiting is no longer just “software.” It’s starting to look like an entirely new labor system.
AI recruiting is no longer just “software.” It’s starting to look like an entirely new labor system.
For more than a decade, the recruiting industry barely changed. Companies bought LinkedIn Recruiter, HR teams managed workflows through ATS platforms, and recruiters spent their days sourcing candidates, making calls, and negotiating offers. At its core, recruiting remained a human intermediary business.
But once AI entered the picture, the industry began to be unbundled in the same way finance once was.
Interestingly, companies like Mercor, Micro1, Handshake, and even Surge all initially positioned themselves as “AI recruiting” startups. Over time, though, many of them gravitated toward something much closer to the Scale AI model: building large-scale AI labor networks rather than traditional recruiting products.
The numbers are staggering. Mercor reportedly surpassed a $1B ARR run rate, Micro1 crossed $200M ARR, and Handshake also exceeded $1B ARR. But at that point, these companies were already becoming something very different from what most people think of as recruiting.
Over the past year, 3 other startups have emerged with 10x ARR growth trajectories — and what makes them fascinating is that they each represent a completely different future for AI recruiting.
